Role and Facility Information
The Victoria Primary Care Network is seeking an applicant(s) to join the region in providing primary care services to underserved populations. We seek New to Practice Family Practitioners and/or several experienced Family Practitioners to help stabilize primary care supports for Newcomers to Canada. The position is 1.0 FTE which can be either one individual or more than one, adding up to 1.0 FTE, who would share the practice. The Family Practitioner(s) will provide full service primary care for patients coming from the federal newcomers to Canada program who need stabilization prior to transfer to a regular primary care provider, including federally-mandated Health Assessments. The practice will be made up of children, adolescents and adults. The population served includes immigrants and refuges from Syria, Africa, Greece, Lebanon and Egypt. Translation services are available. There is a focus on mental health. Knowledge of trauma informed practice is essential. The Family Practitioner will have support from a Primary Care Network team, including Mental Health Workers and Pharmacists. Compensation: New to Practice service contract, with low attachment number Required: Federally-mandated Health Assessments, knowledge of trauma-informed practice Work collaboratively with the Island Health Refugee/Newcomer NP at the Health Care on Yates Clinic. What we are looking for: Dedicated, hard-working and collaborative physicians. Ability to work as a team with Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, and Allied Health Professionals. Open to new to practice physicians and/or physicians currently practicing as FPs, ERPs or Hospitalists. Shared philosophy of trauma-informed, culturally-safe care essential. Experience in hospitalist, rural or ER would also be considered assets but not required. Interest in innovation in primary care and working part-time/shared position.
