“Chilliwack offered a really good balance between city and rural life. There is a large enough medical team to feel well supported, without it being so big that it is impersonal.”

“It is a great feeling being part of the community of physicians that are still working in the hospital, making a difference, and being a part of a local solution for inpatient care.”

Dr. Mervin Scholtz, Family Physician, Chilliwack

“I moved here for the UBC Rural Residency Program. Chilliwack has a really strong medical community – it’s actually pretty extraordinary. Many communities in BC and across Canada have moved to a Hospitalist system, but in Chilliwack the majority of Family Doctors look after their own patients and unassigned patients in the hospital. We have a lot of full-service Family Physicians supported by a robust residency program. This makes Chilliwack a unique medical community.

Chilliwack brought us in. We moved here for school so I was expecting to spend 2 years here. We fell in love with the surroundings and we made some really good friends right away. Chilliwack is a really friendly place. From our house, Harrison is a 25-minute drive, Cultus Lake is a 20-minute drive, and we have the Fraser River 5 minutes from our doorstep. We have the Hope River just under our driveway. My boys can go put their feet in the water, they can see fish and chase bugs. It’s all right around us. It’s all right here.”

Dr. Marc Greidanus, Chilliwack ER Family Physician
