Role and Facility Information

Northern Health is seeking a Family Practitioner interested in providing 0.5 FTE primary care services to our community of Granisle. The selected candidate will join the Primary Care Network and has the option to increase their position to full-time and provide services to Burns Lake and join the Emergency rota call group. Incorporated in 1971, Granisle is located on the shores of Babine Lake, one of the world's largest natural lakes. Via Highway 118, the Village is 50 km north of Highway 16 at Topley, between Burns Lake and Houston. Granisle offers many services including a library, post office, medical centre, elementary school and an RCMP station. The Village of Granisle was brought to life in the early 70's as a home for families of the miners working in the nearby copper mines. At the height of its population, Granisle boasted 3,000 people. Burns Lake has a well established private clinic with a full EMR and offers creative options for sessional work in niche areas of interest such as addictions and mental health. Bring your ideas! A keen interest in Indigenous health is a must. Services are augmented with visiting specialists. Obstetric services are not provided in this community, with deliveries accommodated in nearby Vanderhoof or Prince George. The Lakes District Hospital and Health Centre is a 16 bed facility that opened in 2015. It sees an average of 12,000 ER visits per year. The hospital houses 13 acute care beds, 1 isolation room, 1 palliative care room, emergency services, diagnostic imaging and laboratory, as well as a primary care home with three full time physicians. New grads are welcome! Full support structure in place for call group. Note: applications for LOCUM opportunities are welcome during the recruitment process. The site services a local and surrounding population of approximately 13,000. The community has a strong sense of culture and incredible local talents. With more than 4828 km of lake shoreline, world class mountain biking trails and Olympic quality cross-country skiing, work/life balance is attainable. If extraordinary work and outstanding lifestyle are a priority for you, we look forward to hearing from you! Remuneration for Primary Care Network opportunities are paid through an APP Clinical Services Contract and services provided based from Burns Lake are currently compensated through FFS but transitioning to APP. This posting is covered by the Provincial Health Officer’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccination orders and selected applicant(s) must comply.
