Role and Facility Information
Tucked within the Okanagan Valley's mountains and sapphire lakes, Vernon unfolds a life of graceful balance. Here, time flows as gently as the lakes of Okanagan, Kalamalka, and Swan, days measured not by ticking clocks but by the sun's arc and ever-changing hues on blue waters. With a population around 44,500 from varied walks, families, young adventurers and retirees lend their vibrant hues to the community tapestry. Vernon's economy hums with the quiet industry of nature itself; it's a place where work often feels like a contribution to a larger, communal purpose, with forestry, manufacturing, and tourism offering paths as varied as the trails that ribbon the hills. Recreation is a conversation with the earth — silent kayak glides at dawn, bike rides through autumn's blushing forests, ski trails under stark indigo skies. Emerald lakes beckon, their cool waters a silent call. Trails meander by, offering green sanctuaries. Come winter, Silver Star kindles alpine adventures. In Vernon, education isn’t merely about filling young minds but enriching them with diverse programs. Public and private schools nurture young minds through programs like French immersion, Montessori and snowsports academies. Higher learning thrives nearby, with institutions like Okanagan College and UBC Okanagan cultivating intellectual growth. Here, life is an art form, nurtured by the rhythms of nature and the collective pulse of the community. It’s a place that doesn't just exist but breathes, teaches, and enriches those who come to its fold—a sanctuary for the heart seeking not just a house, but a home. The Vernon Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) is a partnership among the Ministry of Health, Interior Health, the Division of Family Practice and other community partners. It augments the existing same day access to primary care in the North Okanagan currently provided by a network of primary care practices and improve access to same day care for patients. In addition, the Vernon UPCC attaches patients in need of a primary care provider until they can be attached to a regular patient medical home and will provide patients an alternative to the Emergency Department for urgent and episodic care needs that can be managed by primary care. As a General Practice Physician, you will work with members of the care team at the Vernon Urgent and Primary Care Clinic (UPCC). This state of the art clinic will provide longitudinal, urgent, and episodic care to the community of Vernon. This is an excellent opportunity for physicians to work as part of an interprofessional team. The UPCC team consists of general practitioners (GPs), nurse practitioners (NPs), registered nurse team lead, primary care registered nurses (RNs), social workers (SWs), medical office assistants (MOAs), and a dedicated operational manager. The team will focus on members of the general population with non-life threatening illnesses or injuries who need access to same-day care, including those who are unattached. Imagine a career that bends to the rhythm of your life, where the balance between professional fulfillment and personal wellbeing isn't just a dream, but your daily reality. This is the promise that awaits you as a Family Practitioner at our Urgent Primary Care Centre (UPCC). At our UPCCs, you are invited to redefine what it means to be a dedicated physician. Our flexible model allows you to tailor your hours to complement your existing practice or personal commitments. The choice of part-time involvement means that you can weave this opportunity seamlessly into your professional pursuits without the weight of full-time hours. Step into a collaborative team where your expertise as a Family Practitioner is not just needed but celebrated. You'll join a vibrant group of healthcare professionals including Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, Physiotherapists, and Medical Office Assistants. Each member plays an integral part, contributing their unique skills to our patient-centric approach. Together, you ensure that urgent care flows smoothly and effectively, meeting the pressing needs of the community with precision and empathy. Our UPCCs are not just a place of work; they are dynamic and supportive environments where professional growth is as much a priority as patient care. If you're ready to infuse your medical practice with newfound flexibility and join a team where your clinical acumen will make a tangible difference, we invite you to consider this unique opportunity. A UPCC is not just another clinic; it's a place where your professional journey can flourish alongside your personal desires for a balanced life. For those interested, Leadership Development Opportunities are available with Interior Health’s NAVIG8 Program. The NAVIG8 Emerging Physician Leaders Program is a comprehensive leadership development program designed specifically for physicians to address the practical leadership knowledge, behaviours and skills that high potential, emerging medical leaders require to step into leadership roles early in their careers.
